Passive Voice

A.    Understanding of  Passive Voice

Passive voice is grammatical construction where the subject of the sentence not perform the action, but take action or receiver of action by another agent (doer of action) of good mentioned or not.

B.     The Formula of Passive Voice

·         A Basic Formula

Formula : Peristiwa/benda  + TO BE + VERB 3 +  Pelaku

Example :

-  Rice is eaten by me (Nasi dimakan oleh saya)

-  Book are read by students (Buku dibaca oleh murid-murid)

-  I am asked by strangers  (Saya ditanya oleh beberapa orang asing)

·         The formula of  Passive Voice in 16 Tenses

3	Present Perfect Tense	S + to be (have/has) + being + V3 + by + O	S + have/has + been + V3 + by + O

4	Present Perfect Continuous Tense	S + have/has + been + V1-ing + O	S + have/has + been + being + V3 + by + O
		Many people have been speaking English	English has been being spoken by many people
5	Past Simple Tense	S + V2 + O	S + to be (was, were) + V3 + by + O
		Many people spoke English	English was spoken by many people
6	Past Continuous Tense	S + to be (was, were) + V1-ing + O	S + to be (was, were) + being + V3 + by + O
		Many people were speaking English	English was being spoken by many people
7	Past Perfect Tense	S + had not + V3 + O	S + had + been + V3 + by + O
		Many people had spoken English	English had been spoken by many people
8	Past Perfect Continuous Tense	S + had + been + V1-ing + O	S + had + been + being + V3 + by + O
		Many people had been speaking English	English had been being spoken by many people
9	Future Simple Tense	S + will not + V1 + O	S + will be + V3 + by + O
		Many people will speak English	English will be spoken by many people
10	Future Continuous Tense	S + will + be + V1-ing + O	S + will + be + being + V3 + by + O
		Many people will be speaking English	English will be being spoken by many people
11	Future Perfect Tense	S + will + have + V3 + O	S + will + have + been + V3 + by + O
		Many people will have spoken English	English will have been spoken by many people
12	Future Perfect Continuous Tense	S + will + have + been + V1-ing + O	S + will + have + been + being + V3+ O
		Many people will have been speaking English	English will have been being spoken by Many people
13	Past Future Simple Tense	S + would +  V1 + O	S + would + be + V3 + by + O
		Many people would speak English	English would be spoken by many people
14	Past Future Continuous Tense	S + would + be + V1-ing + O	S + would + be + being + V3 + by + O
		Many people would be speaking English	English would be being spoken by many people
15	Past Future Perfect Tense	S + would + have + V3 + O	S + would + have + been + V3 + by + O
		Many people would have spoken English	English would have been spoken by many people
16	Past Future Perfect Continuous Tense	S + would + have + been + V1-ing + O	S + would + have + been +being + V3 + by + O

C.     Example 10 sentence Active modify then becoming Passive

1.      Active  : Aliando listen to music.

Passive : Music is listened by Aliando.

2.      Active  : Bella is eating apple.

Passive : Apple is being eaten by Bella.

3.      Active  : Aliando watched television.

Passive : Television was watched by Aliando.

4.      Active  : Kajol had stopped car.

Passive : Car had been stopped by Kajol.

5.      Active  : Kajol had been stoping car.

Passive : Car had been being stopped by Kajol.

6.      Active  : Dahlia would have been closing the curtain tonight.

Passive : The curtain would have been being closed by dahlia tonight.

7.      Active  : Andi would answer Tina.

Passive : Tina would be answered by Andi.

8.      Active  : Jessica would have worn belt.

Passive : Belt would have been worn by Jessica.

9.      Active  : April lend Pencil.

Passive : Pencil is lent by April.

10.   Active  : Riani broke the glass.

 Passive : The glass was broken by Riani.

D.    Example 10 sentence Passive modify then becoming Active

1.      Passive : This house is bought by my mother.

Active  : My Mother buys this house.

2.      Passive : The market was stolen my wallet by him.

Active  : He stole my wallet in the market.

3.      Passive : The book was read by my mom yesterday.

Active  : My mom read the magazine yesterday.

4.      Passive : Is it loved by the girl?

Active  : Does the girl love it?

5.      Passive : The book was read by her in one day.

Active  : She read the book in one day.

6.      Passive : Some chocolate are being bought by Galang for his girlfriend.

Active  : Galang is buying some chocolate for his girlfriend.

7.      Passive : Was the bird killed by a cat?

Active  : Did a cat kill the bird?

8.      Passive : You can be helped by us anytime.

Active  : We can help you anytime.

9.      Passive : A letter is being written by Rita.

Active  : Rita is writing a letter.

10.  Passive : The bag was not brought by him.

Active  : He did not bring the bag.
